Pune: Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase has directed all establishments under the Maharashtra State Government’s Industries, Energy, and Labour Department to grant adequate leave or a minimum two-hour concession to employees on polling day, November 20, 2024. This directive is intended to ensure all voters can exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections.

In an official statement, Dr. Diwase confirmed that the Industries, Energy, and Labour Department has issued a circular mandating a polling day holiday for all individuals engaged in any profession, trade, or industrial sector within polling areas. This applies to all companies, industrial groups, institutions, and establishments under the department. No salary deductions will be made for employees taking this leave to vote.

In cases where a full day’s leave is unfeasible, establishments are permitted to provide at least a two-hour concession to employees for voting, upon obtaining prior approval from the Pune District Election Officer. However, establishments must ensure this minimum concession is provided, with penalties for non-compliance.

The district administration also cautioned that any voter complaints about being denied leave or voting time due to lack of a holiday or concession would lead to action against the concerned establishments.
