The Pune city police have arrested a 30-year-old doctor, Kuldeep Adinath Savant, in connection with the suicide of a 25-year-old woman doctor. The deceased reportedly consumed a poisonous substance at her clinic on January 7, succumbing to the effects the following day.

Savant, a resident of Jat in Sangli district, allegedly met the deceased on a matrimonial website, where he posed as a single man and promised marriage. Investigations revealed that he hid his marital status and fraudulently obtained ₹10 lakh from the deceased under various pretexts, according to the woman’s father, who filed a police complaint.

The victim, who held a BHMS degree and operated a clinic in Pune, ended her life after the alleged deception came to light. Following her father’s complaint, an FIR was registered at Bibvewadi police station under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Acting on a tip-off received by police sub-inspector Shashank Jadhav, officers apprehended Savant and brought him to Pune for further investigation.

Authorities continue to probe the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
