Pune : Driver commits suicide in Kausar Baug over bullying from employer ; Kondhwa Police registers case

On 30th November (Thursday), a video surfaced in which a person said that he is committing suicide from a construction site in Kausar Baug, Kondhwa.

As per further information about the incident shared by Santosh Sonawane, Senior Police Inspector, Kondhwa Police Station, Tohid Mehmood Shaikh, who committed suicide, was employed by Arbaz Wali Mohammad Memon as a driver and supervisor for 4 years.

They had an argument on 29th November for Tohid not coming to work early. As the deceased was upset that the owner had spoken in front of the father-in-law of the deceased, the deceased committed suicide by jumping from the 6th floor of the construction site at Kausar Baug.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonawane further added that the preliminary investigation has been completed and the process of filing a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is on.

In the video, the deceased Tohid can be heard saying that he was working for Arbaz Wali Mohammad Memon at a construction site. Arbaz & some other people had mentally tortured him for several days for a small mistake amounting to Rs 500. Yesterday, they approached Tohid & abused & insulted him in front of his in-laws. They also threatened to kill him. Arbaz Wali Mohammad Memon is not a good person. Any labourer in Kondhwa will say that he is not a good person & keeps abusing. They also said that the police will not register any complaint against them. Hence, Tohid committed suicide.

Dr Keshav Kshirsagar, President, Baghtoy Rickshawala Association, Pune, has informed that today, at around 8:20 am, Tohid Shaikh had uploaded a video of himself committing suicide on the “Baghtoy Rickshawala Kondhwa” group and committed suicide by jumping from a building. The group members immediately started calling him but by then it was too late.

Dr Kshirsagar further added that shockingly, after he jumped, someone deleted the video from the deceased’s mobile, which he posted, from the group, but it is still available with the Association as it was forwarded to other groups. Baghtoy Rickshawala Association will ensure that he gets justice, if not we shall stage a strong protest. 

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonawane further added that the family members of the deceased Tohid Shaikh, his aunts, uncles, his relatives from Solapur etc visited the Kondhwa Police Station yesterday (30th November) & were pleading to the police to catch the accused soon & demanded compensation from the accused.
