The increasing and uncontrolled flow of vehicles in Pune is getting out of radar each passing day. On an average, the motorists honk for more than one crore times while travelling or during the traffic congestion in city, with most of times honking unnecessarily. In order to raise awareness on the effects of unnecessary and “ear-splitting” sound. Pune based organizations, ‘Navchaitanya Hasya Yog Parivaar’ and ‘Life Saving Foundation’, have collaborated with the Pune Police, to mark ‘No Horn Day’ in Pune on Saturday, December 12,2020 as per the information given by Makarand Tillu, representative of Nachchaitanya Hasya Yog Parivaar, and Devendra Pathak from Life Saving Foundation.

Makarand Tillu, while talking to Pune Pulse, said, “We have observed that even though the boards to not honk near hospital and schools are placed, yet we do not take them into consideration. We have to understand the seriousness of the mental and the environment issues arising out of the unnecessary honking. We have urged many social, private and other industries to participate in our initiative.”

An event has been organised by the organization with the help of Pune Traffic Police at Alka Chowk at 12 PM on December 12.

The head of the program is Vice Chancellor of Pune University, Nitin Karmalkar, and the chief guest is Pune Traffic Police DCP Rahul Shrirame. Due to COVID, the main event will be hosted live on Youtube and Facebook, where the invitees would express their opinions on the day with the hosts of the event.
