Pune: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has extended financial assistance of ₹32 lakh to the family of Shirish Maharaj More, the 11th-generation descendant of Sant Tukaram from Dehu, who tragically died by suicide due to financial distress.

Shirish Maharaj More took his life at his residence in Dehu on February 5, leaving behind four notes detailing his financial burdens. In one of the notes, he mentioned being under ₹32 lakh debt and urged his friends to help repay it.

Upon learning about the tragedy, Shinde immediately took action and instructed MLA Vijay Shivtare to provide financial aid to the More family. On February 9, Shivtare visited the family’s home and handed over a cheque covering the full debt on behalf of Shinde.

Shinde, known for his compassionate nature, was deeply saddened by the incident. As a mark of respect, he also issued strict instructions to his party workers in Pimpri-Chinchwad not to celebrate his birthday this year.

This gesture highlights Shinde’s commitment to social responsibility, ensuring that the family of a revered spiritual figure is not left in financial distress.
