Pune: The absence of a cold storage facility in Gultekdi Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), Market Yard, Pune has led to a sense of discontent among the farmers. It is worthy to note that, in APMC there is a huge influx of vegetables & fruits from outside the state and district. However, no cold storage facilities are present to preserve them.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Karan Jadhav, Secretary, Adate Association, said,  “There are several vegetables and fruits such as Potato, Cucumber, Chickpeas, Peas, Apples, Oranges, Cherries that come into the market yard. It is essential to have cold storage facilities for them otherwise they rot. Since the cold storage facility is not available here, they are sent and kept in the cold storage facilities at Shivapur, Baneshwar, Pirangut & other areas which become expensive.”

He further said, “Since its establishment of Market Yard in Pune, there is no cold storage facility. Many times we have requested APMC to open a cold storage facility. We are even ready to bear the expenses. However, the APMC ignores & neglects this issue every time.”

Giving assurance about providing the cold storage facility, Aniruddha Bhosale, Director, APMC Pune said, “Taking the issue into cognizance, we have requested the main APMC to chalk out a plan of constructing a cold storage facility. Rest assured, the cold storage facility will soon be constructed.”
