Pune: The Pune Police is taking strict action against auto-rickshaw drivers for flouting traffic rules in Katraj Chowk. The police will soon implement these measures in the rest of the city to reduce the number of auto rickshaw drivers who do not obey the rules.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vijaykumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner, Traffic Police Pune said, “The number of auto rickshaws who do not follow traffic rules is increasing. Some break traffic signals, some park their auto rickshaws on the roadside and more. Despite several warnings and creating integrated auto rickshaw stands for parking, they do not listen and continue to break traffic rules. Hence, as a major warning, the Pune Police has started taking stringent action on such auto drivers from Katraj Chowk every day. Such exercise is going to be implemented across all major traffic junctions  in the entire city.”

As per information, action has been taken against 27 auto-rickshaws in Katraj Chowk. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, a Rs 500 fine will be imposed on them for violating traffic rules for the first time. If they continue to break traffic rules, a fine of Rs 1500 will be imposed.

The police have urged and appealed to all the auto-rickshaw drivers in the city to follow traffic rules every day.
