Pune: A survey done by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) revealed that out of approximately 5 lakh trees in the entire city, 43,000 trees are hazardous in nature.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ashok Ghorpade, Head of PMC Garden Department said, “Out of around 5 lakh total trees in Pune, 43,000 trees are hazardous. The reasons being the roots getting damaged due to roadworks like laying cables, drainage lines etc. These kinds of works are damaging the green cover of the entire city. However, we will take effective steps to remove dangerous trees present on the roadside and in open spaces.”

As per information shared by Ghorpade, these 43,000 hazardous trees belong to private, PMC and government properties. These trees are overgrown, slanting, dry and lifeless. As a result, these trees can fall anytime which can turn out to be fatal and risk people’s lives.

Hence, PMC appeals to every citizen of Pune to take permission from the civic body immediately to remove these trees.
