Pune Fatal Accident: ST Bus and Auto Rickshaw Collide in Katraj Ghat; Rickshaw Driver Dies, Three Injured
Pune, 23 April: A fatal road accident occurred in the jurisdiction of Ambegaon Police Station on April 23, 2026, around 5:25 PM in the Katraj Ghat area of Pune. The incident took place at the second turn after exiting the Katraj tunnel while heading towards Pune.
According to police information, a state transport bus (MH 10 DT 2697) and an auto rickshaw (MH 12 GS 9695) collided, leaving four occupants of the rickshaw injured. All injured persons were immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment via 108 ambulance services.
The ST bus was travelling from Swargate towards Vita in Sangli district, while the auto rickshaw was coming from Khed Shivapur towards Swargate.
In the accident, the rickshaw driver, Hanumant Ramesh Hangarge (42), a resident of Sukhsagar Nagar near Bankar School, Bibwewadi, died due to his injuries.

Rajesh Ingawale (48), resident of Gokul Nagar, Katraj Kondhwa Road, Pune
Dashrath Nirgude (43), resident near Oswal Hospital, Upper Bibwewadi, Pune
Shahaji Laxman Shivde (41), resident near Bank of Maharashtra, behind Shani Mandir, Upper Indiranagar, Bibwewadi
Meanwhile, the bus driver, Jalinder Vishnu Shinde (53), a resident of Shedgewadi in Khanapur, Sangli district, has been taken into custody. Police have conducted his medical examination, and further investigation into the accident is underway.
