Pune: Father and Sons Arrested for Murder of 17-Year-Old Over Girl’s Friendship
In a troubling incident in Pune’s Wagholi area, a senior citizen and his two sons have been arrested by police for their suspected role in the death of a minor boy. The event occurred in Gore Wasti on January 2, where tensions reportedly arose from past grievances and the minor’s close friendship with the daughter of the senior citizen.
Following the incident, family members of the deceased expressed their anger by vandalizing the home of the accused, leading to police intervention to restore order.
Waghu Maruti Dhande (64), the father of the deceased boy, filed a complaint at the Wagholi Police Station. As a result, Laxman Petkar (60) and his sons Nitin (31) and Sudhir (32), all of Gore Wasti, were taken into custody.
According to police investigations, the relationship between the deceased minor and Petkar’s daughter was viewed unfavorably by the Petkar family, and there had been ongoing disputes between the Dhande and Petkar families.
Late last night, the minor boy had ridden into Gore Wasti on a two-wheeler and gotten into a dispute with the Petkar family. It was alleged that the father and his two sons had begun to assault the boy, ultimately hitting him on the head with an iron rod and a stone. Although the police had arrived at the location, they were unable to save the boy, which led to the arrest of the Petkar family.
The morning saw the relatives of the deceased boy gathering at the police station, demanding that the authorities take strong action against the accused. Senior Police Inspector Pandit Rejitwad, who oversaw the Wagholi Police Station, tried to calm the crowd and assured them that strict measures would be taken.
Following this, the relatives went to the Petkar residence, where they threw stones and caused damage to the property. Police quickly returned to the scene and decided to provide security for the house. The family of the deceased initially intended to conduct the final rites in front of the Petkar home.
Senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Himmat Jadhav, attempted to negotiate with the family of the deceased boy.
