Pune: FDA Rolls Out ‘Food Safety On Wheels’ For Ashadi Wari, Conducts Inspections Across Palkhi Route
Pune, July 10, 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified food safety inspections along the Ashadi Wari route to ensure that lakhs of pilgrims receive safe and hygienic food during the annual pilgrimage.
Special teams of Food Safety Officers are inspecting hotels, restaurants, food stalls, community kitchens, and temporary food distribution centres set up along the Palkhi route. Officials are checking food quality, cleanliness, storage conditions, drinking water, and the use of licensed food products.

During the inspections, authorities are also verifying food business licences, examining expiry dates of packaged products, and ensuring that food handlers maintain proper hygiene while preparing and serving meals to devotees.

The FDA has warned vendors against selling adulterated, stale, or expired food and said strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the Food Safety and Standards Act. Food items found unfit for consumption are being seized and destroyed wherever necessary.
The department has appealed to pilgrims to consume food only from clean and authorised establishments and to immediately report any suspected cases of food contamination or unhygienic practices to the nearest FDA official or local authorities.
