PUNE: The District Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is actively working to address the issue of adulteration of milk and milk products by taking stern action against establishments selling such harmful and unlawful products. A commitment was reaffirmed during a recent meeting held at the District Collector’s office on Friday.

During the meeting, FDA officials and employees expressed their dissatisfaction with inspections being interrupted by external forces, resulting in a protest in front of Additional Collector Ajay More, who chairs the committee. Following this, Additional Collector Ajay More instructed FDA employees to immediately take action to prevent milk adulteration in the area.

Very recently a factory making adulterated paneer was raided by the officials in Pune’s fringe area. Milk and milk product adulteration is a widespread concern in the state, leading the Revenue Department to establish a committee chaired by the District’s Additional Collector. The committee comprises key individuals such as the Superintendent of Police, Joint Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration, Deputy Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, Deputy Registrar of Metrology, and District Dairy Officer.

In line with these efforts, Additional Collector More organized a meeting on Friday with officials and staff from the police department and FDA. Notably, the Joint Commissioner of FDA was not present at the meeting. A dedicated team was formed during the meeting to conduct daily inspections and test three samples of milk and milk products for adulteration.

However, FDA officials and employees reportedly expressed concern towards this initiative, arguing that investigations and actions should be carefully planned before implementation. Additional Collector More directly reprimanded FDA officers and employees, instructing them to investigate and take action regardless of the circumstances. While a committee has been established to combat milk and milk product adulteration in the city and district, the active involvement of the FDA is vital for ensuring public health. The committee emphasizes the importance of regular inspections and immediate action in case of adulteration. However, discouraging inspections could raise doubts about the government’s work. Therefore, committee members are expected to follow the established plan, as emphasized by Additional Collector and Committee Chairman Ajay More.
