Pune, July 20, 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has witnessed a sharp rise in public complaints after launching its Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered complaint portal, making it easier for citizens to report issues related to food safety and medicines.
According to FDA officials, the Pune Division received 293 complaints between July 15 and July 19 regarding food products and medicines. The complaints are being scrutinised, and appropriate action will be taken after inspections.
The surge in complaints comes as the FDA intensifies its statewide drive against adulterated food, substandard medicines, expired products, unhygienic food preparation, and counterfeit drugs.
Once a complaint is received, Food Safety Officers or Drug Inspectors conduct inspections at the concerned premises. If necessary, food and medicine samples are collected and sent to laboratories for testing. Strict action is initiated against violators if any breach of regulations is detected.
Joint Commissioner D. V. Bhogawade of the FDA’s Pune Division said the AI-enabled portal has simplified the complaint registration process. Citizens can now submit complaints in Marathi, Hindi or English by speaking or typing, and the AI system automatically converts them into a written complaint.
The portal also allows users to track the status of their complaints online, making the grievance redressal process more transparent and user-friendly.
How to File a Complaint
Citizens can register complaints through the FDA’s AI-powered portal by following these steps:
- Visit complaints.mahafda.in.
- Choose whether the complaint relates to food or drugs.
- Describe the complaint in Marathi, Hindi, or English by speaking or typing.
- The AI system automatically prepares the complaint in written form.
- Submit the complaint online.
- Track the complaint status through the portal after submission.
The FDA said the initiative is aimed at encouraging greater public participation in ensuring food safety and improving the quality of medicines across Maharashtra.
