Pune, July 8 – A major tragedy was averted in Katraj today when a vigilant firefighter rescued a four-year-old girl who was stuck in a third-floor window and was moments away from falling.
The incident occurred around 9:06 AM at Sonawane Building in Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Khopde Nagar. Umesh Sutar, a resident of the building, was heard shouting for help. Upon hearing the commotion, another resident rushed to his gallery and noticed the child, identified as Bhavika Chandane (4), precariously hanging out of a bedroom window on the third floor.
Sensing the urgency, Pune Fire Brigade officer Yogesh Arjun Chavan, who was nearby, immediately ran towards the building. On reaching the third floor, he found the flat locked and the child alone inside the house. Bhavika’s mother had gone to drop her elder daughter to school and was returning at the same moment.
Chavan coordinated swiftly with the mother to unlock the door and managed to pull the frightened child safely back into the room through the window, saving her life.
Residents have hailed Chavan’s timely intervention, praising his presence of mind and quick action.
