Pune: First Consignment Of Hapus Mangoes Arrives From Karnataka At Gultekdi Market Yard
Pune, December 18, 2025: The first consignment of Hapus (Alphonso) mangoes from Karnataka has reached the Gultekdi Market Yard, marking an early start to the season. Traditionally, the initial arrival of Hapus mangoes is from the Konkan region, but this year Karnataka has led the way.
The first lot, consisting of six boxes, arrived at the stall of trader Rohan Satish Ursal. The mangoes were sourced from the farm of Karnataka-based farmer G. M. Shafiulla. At the auction, a box containing four dozen mangoes fetched a price of ₹5,100, indicating strong early demand.
The consignment was purchased by traders Suresh Kevalani and Bony Rohra. Several market stakeholders, including Satish Ursal and former vice-president of the Adte Association, Yuvraj Kachi, were present during the auction.
Two days earlier, on Sunday (February 14), the market had received its first arrival of Lalbagh mangoes from Karnataka. With the arrival of Hapus mangoes now underway, the mango season has effectively begun earlier than usual.
Compared to previous years, the arrival is nearly 20 to 25 days ahead of schedule. Prices are also reported to be around 30 per cent higher than last year. Traders attributed last year’s lower arrivals to crop damage caused by adverse weather conditions in Karnataka.
This year, however, market experts expect higher overall arrivals. Limited supplies are anticipated in February, while the peak season, which usually begins in April, is likely to start as early as March. Traders also noted that the quality of the mangoes in the initial consignment is good, raising expectations for a promising season ahead.
