A forest guard named Kailas Bhalerao from the Junnar forest division sustained injuries during a rescue operation near Alephata in Junnar tehsil.

The incident occurred when a leopard, crossing the Pune-Nashik Highway, collided with a bike, causing panic among the residents. Bhalerao, currently in stable condition, is undergoing treatment in a hospital, as confirmed by forest officials. Additionally, a bike rider crossing the highway near Alephata was injured after being hit by the same leopard.

On March 26, the forest department received reports of a leopard sighting in a human settlement area, prompting the deployment of a rapid rescue team. Despite efforts by forest guards and officials, the leopard managed to escape into a nearby field before they arrived.

Assistant Conservator of Forest Amit Bhise described the chaotic scene, with around 500 people gathering outside the building where the leopard was spotted. During the operation, the leopard attacked Bhalerao as it was being pushed downwards, causing serious injuries to his hand and shoulder.

The repeated incidents of leopard sightings in human areas in Junnar tehsil have raised concerns among residents, triggering demands for effective mitigation measures.

Many such incidents have been reported in the region, prompting calls for action from authorities. Residents are urging for a sterilization plan to address the conflict situation, although the project is still awaiting approval from the state government.
