The Pune forest division intercepted two trucks on Aundh Road in Ravet on Saturday night, seizing 250 bags of illegally produced charcoal. The truck drivers fled the scene as officials confiscated the vehicles.
The charcoal was made from illegally felled subabul trees in Pune and was concealed within the trucks, raising suspicions among patrolling officers.
A case was registered under Section 41(2) B of the Indian Forest Act, 1927, and the seized charcoal was deposited at the forest office. In response, the forest department has intensified patrols in Pimpri Chinchwad, inspecting sawmills and urging citizens to report suspicious activities.
