Pune Ganeshotsav 2025: Liquor Ban For 10 Days, Loudspeaker Use Allowed Till Midnight
Pune, August 25, 2025 – In an effort to maintain law and order during Ganeshotsav 2025, the State Excise Department has ordered the closure of liquor shops, permit rooms, beer bars, and restaurants in the old city areas of Pune for a total of 10 days. The restrictions will primarily cover regions with a high concentration of Ganesh mandals, including Vishrambaug, Faraskhana, and Khadak police station limits.
Previously, liquor bans were imposed only on the first and last day of the festival. However, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had formally requested the District Collector to declare dry days for the entire festival period this year to ensure public safety and discipline.
Meanwhile, District Collector Jitendra Dudi issued a final order on Saturday granting permission to use loudspeakers until midnight from August 30 to September 4, along with Visarjan Day on September 6. This makes a total of seven days of extended hours.
Typically, such permission is granted for only five days, but it has been extended this year as the fourth and fifth days fall on a weekend, which is expected to draw large crowds.
As per the Noise Pollution Rules (amended in 2000 and 2017), district authorities can permit midnight loudspeaker usage for up to 15 days annually, excluding silence zones like hospitals, schools, and courts.
