Ganga Amber Society Residents In Tathawade Launch Green Initiative to Combat Pollution and Lack of Greenery

The residents of the Ganga Amber Society in Tathawade near Wakad have taken it upon themselves to plant crucial species of trees in the vicinity to replenish the lack of the same. Nilesh Ghorpade, Ganesh Kudande, Vikram Pillai, Anand Dolas, Sagar Hambirrao, Amol Bagul, and Vikas are the residents who launched a tree plantation Group called ‘Zadanchi Bhishi only about a month ago and already planted more than 238 trees between 26 May to 9 June 2024.
On Saturday, they conducted their 5th drive in the same vicinity around the Decathlon area. The plantation is carried out mindfully, considering the water and space requirements of the specific species. They have also urged the PCMC authorities to provide these saplings with sufficient water often. Check out snippets from today’s drive.
One of the founding members of Zadanshi Bhishi, Vikram Pillai told Pune Pulse how the no. of constructions is rapidly expanding in the Tathawade-Wakad region in Pune. Additionally, the NHAI highway adjacent to Decathlon Tathawade has led to an upsurge in the level of pollution drastically leaving commuters and citizens no other option but to inhale harmful effluents. The area also lacks greenery and a required amount of trees. Hence, they took an interest in this issue and started a green initiative.
The group, once formed by merely 10-15 people, now is a growing family of more than 250 members including children and senior citizens.
