Pune: Garbage Fire Damages 8 Power Lines; Electricity Supply Disrupted Of 1.15Â Lakh Consumers From Vishrantwadi, Dhanori, Moshi
Pune, April 16, 2025: A fire broke out in the garbage dumped on a trench in the nullah near the GREF Center on the Alandi-Kalas Road. The blaze damaged eight 22 kV power lines of MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited) installed in the trench. The incident occurred around 2:30 AM today. As a result, electricity supply to around 1.15 lakh consumers in Vishrantwadi, Kalas, Dhanori, and Lohgaon was gradually restored by 5 AM. However, around 10,000 consumers in Vishrantwadi and Kalas and about 17,000 in Dighi faced power outages till 12:30 PM.
According to the details, there is a nullah on the Alandi-Kalas Road near the GREF Center, under Nagar Road division. MSEDCL has eight power lines laid in a trench there, which supply electricity to around 1.42 lakh consumers in Vishrantwadi, Kalas, Dhanori, Lohgaon, and Dighi. Garbage has been frequently dumped over this trench, and early this morning, around 2:30 AM, it caught fire. To avoid further risk, MSEDCL immediately cut off the power supply. The fire brigade also arrived promptly and extinguished the fire by around 3 AM.
MSEDCL then began working on restoring power through alternate arrangements and started emergency repairs on the damaged lines. Through alternate means, power supply to about 1.15 lakh consumers in Vishrantwadi, Kalas, Dhanori, and Lohgaon was gradually restored by 5 AM. However, due to increased demand and load issues on the alternate lines, about 10,000 low-voltage consumers in Vishrantwadi and Kalas and around 17,000 in Dighi could not be supplied.
To speed up repair work, six contractors were deployed simultaneously. Executive Engineer of Nagar Road Division Ashok Jadhav, Additional Executive Engineers Sharangdhar Kenekar and Harshitkumar Wakode, along with section engineers and Janmitras participated in the repairs. Tasks such as replacing damaged cable sections, jointing, and other works were completed by 12:30 PM. Subsequently, power supply was restored to all areas through the repaired lines.
