Pune: Garbage Pile-Ups, Illegal Dumping And Delayed Road Works Raise Concerns In Wadgaonsheri
Pune, May 12, 2026: Frequent garbage pile-ups, illegal roadside dumping, delayed infrastructure works and cleanliness concerns in Wadgaonsheri were among the key issues discussed during a meeting held with Corporator Yogesh Mulik at his office on May 9.
The meeting was attended by SI Salke, PSI Lokhande, members of the SWaCH team and representatives of the Clean Wadgaonsheri Group. Discussions focused on reviewing pending civic issues and preparing an action plan to improve waste management in the area.
Officials informed the meeting that the NEPRA waste processing plant is still partially functional, resulting in delays in garbage vehicle movement and waste clearance. The issue was discussed with Solid Waste Management Department head Prasad Katkar. Supply of 10 handcarts for SWaCH workers was also taken up during the discussion.
As a temporary measure, a proposal was discussed to use the Ganesh Visarjan area for waste dumping until the NEPRA-related issues are resolved. Authorities also confirmed that five new garbage collection vehicles have been received and their deployment plan will be finalised soon.
Members of CWG highlighted the poor garbage handling situation in Wadgaonsheri compared to nearby areas such as Viman Nagar and Kalyani Nagar. A joint survey with civic officials has been planned to assess the differences in cleanliness standards.
The meeting also discussed unattended garbage dumps on Labour Camp Road, which residents claimed had not been cleared for nearly two weeks. Officials were instructed to address the issue immediately. PSI Lokhande was asked to submit a detailed report on SWaCH-managed properties, staffing requirements and attendance records across Wadgaonsheri’s four zones.
Action against illegal roadside dumping based on recently installed camera footage was also reviewed. Discussions were held on relocating one of the surveillance cameras near Arnold School for better monitoring.
Other civic issues discussed included delayed footpath restoration works, road relaying from Bishop School junction to F Residency, debris clearance before monsoon and pending culvert work affected by the recent RMC strike. The next review meeting has been scheduled for May 16
