Pune Gears Up For Mega Lok Adalat On May 10: Over 1.08 Lakh Cases To Be Settled Across 135 Panels

Pune, May 7, 2025: In a major initiative aimed at reducing judicial backlog and providing quick, amicable resolutions, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Pune has announced the organization of a mega Lok Adalat on May 10, 2025, where over 1,08,000 cases are set to be taken up for settlement.

Sonal S Patil, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Pune informed, “More than 135 panels have been constituted across the District Court in Shivajinagar, Pune, various Taluka Courts, and other offices where cases are pending.” The Lok Adalat will hear and settle a wide range of matters including:

  • Criminal Compoundable Offences
  • Negotiable Instrument Act (Section 138 – Cheque Bounce Cases)
  • Money Recovery Cases
  • Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) Cases
  • Labour Dispute Cases
  • Electricity and Water Bill Disputes (excluding non-compoundable cases)
  • Matrimonial Disputes
  • Land Acquisition Matters
  • Service Matters related to pay, allowances, and retiral benefits
  • Revenue Cases
  • Other Civil Cases (e.g., Rent Disputes, Easement Rights, Injunctions, Specific Performance Suits)
  • IPR Matters, Consumer Cases, and other cases pending before quasi-judicial authorities

The DLSA has urged the public to make the most of this opportunity to save time, money, and avoid imprisonment, especially in cases eligible for compromise. The Lok Adalat also aims to reduce stress, anxiety, and mend relationships between disputing parties.

Success Stories From Past Lok Adalats:

🔹 ₹2.5 Crore Compensation Awarded in MACT Case
In 2024, Naina from Shirur, who suffered 100% disability due to a severe head injury in a road accident, was awarded ₹2.5 crore compensation through the National Lok Adalat.

🔹 ₹1.75 Crore Settlement in Accident and Loan Case
In another session, Abhishek Pravin Dhende received ₹75 lakh for injuries sustained in a 2021 accident. Additionally, a cheque bounce dispute between HDFC Bank and Jayashree Bendre was resolved for ₹90 lakh, with ₹1.5 lakh in stamp duty recovered.

🔹 Reconciliation of 18 Separated Couples
In October 2024, 18 couples, including one married in 2018 and separated for six years, reconciled during Lok Adalat sessions in Pune after professional counseling.

🔹 Electricity Theft Arrears Worth ₹40,000 Settled
Under the Mahavitran Abhay Yojana during the December 2023 Lok Adalat, 122 cases related to electricity theft were resolved. Consumers benefited from a 100% waiver on interest and late fees, needing to pay only the principal.

🔹 69 Divorce Petitions Withdrawn
During another Lok Adalat in October 2024, 69 couples chose to withdraw their divorce petitions at the Pune Family Court, thanks to interventions by judges and counselors.

🔹 ₹369.78 Crore Settled in 1.4 Lakh Cases
In March 2024, a National Lok Adalat saw the resolution of 1.4 lakh cases in Pune District, with settlements amounting to ₹369.78 crore. The cases included civil, criminal, banking, labour, and utility bill matters.

Last year, 1,38,825 matters were successfully resolved in Lok Adalat proceedings. Citizens are now encouraged to utilize the upcoming May 10th Lok Adalat to resolve disputes, restore peace of mind, and maintain personal and professional relationships.
