Tragic Road Accident Claims Two Lives, Injures Four on Pune-Mumbai Highway

In an untoward incident, a person was killed and nine others were injured when a car struck a container in front of the Patradevi Goa Police Check Post in Pernem, Goa. The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Kantilal Vitthal Shinde (age 47, resident-Wadebolhai). As per preliminary information, all of them belonged to the Wagholi area of Pune.

As per information, the injured are receiving treatment in a Goa-based hospital. Amongst the injured, five are youths. As per the Goa Police report, the Maruti Eeco car had ten people travelling. The incident occurred when the ill-fated Maruti Eeco hit two bikes and later collided with the container. The Goa police have fired a complaint against the container’s driver.

Data from police records show that out of 2,846 accidents reported in Goa last year, 2,625 involved vehicle-to-vehicle accidents, and 159 vehicle-to-pedestrian. 2072 of these accidents were in rural regions, and 774 in urban areas. Even when it came to fatalities, accidents in rural areas claimed 214 lives, compared to 76 in urban areas.
