Two incidents of gold chain thefts on Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses have left commuters in fear. Within four days, two individuals lost their gold chains, totalling 37 grams in weight. The Lonikand police station has registered cases for both thefts.

In the first incident, an elderly woman had her two-and-a-half-tola gold chain snatched while she was on a bus from Tata Garden to Perne Phata. The victim, a resident of Vadgaon Sheri, filed a complaint leading to the registration of a case. Similarly, in the second incident, a 60-year-old man lost his 12-gram gold chain while travelling from Pune Municipality to Kesnand Phata. The victim, from Wagholi, promptly reported the incident, resulting in another case being registered.

These thefts add to a string of similar incidents, including the theft of mobile phones and cash, often going unnoticed until after the thieves have fled the scene. Demands from citizens for increased police presence and patrols on PMPML buses are growing louder in response to these worrying trends.

A concerned citizen urged, “The police need to step up patrols on PMPML buses to ensure the safety of commuters and deter such criminal activities.”
