The government on Monday approved the formation of a committee of 18 people’s representatives under the chairmanship of the divisional commissioner for basic facilities in 34 villages included in the municipal corporation. Therefore, the development works in the included villages will be done through this committee.

The order in this regard was issued by the Deputy Secretary of the Urban Development Department. A total of 34 villages were included in the Pune Municipal Corporation by the state government.

One year after the villages were included in the Municipal Corporation, the term of the Municipal Corporation members expired in March 2022. Municipal elections were expected to be held after that. However, due to disputes over ward structure and other issues, the municipal elections were delayed.

As a result, Shiv Sena city chief Nana Bhangire had requested the Chief Minister through a letter that a committee under the chairmanship of the divisional commissioner should be established for basic facilities in these villages due to the lack of people’s representatives to guide the development works in these villages.

Accepting that demand, the Chief Minister gave the order to the Divisional Commissioner. Accordingly, the Divisional Commissioner held a meeting with the Municipal Commissioner and submitted a proposal to the government on July 4 to establish a committee of 11 people’s representatives for 34 villages. But on July 18, Bhangire again demanded that 12 people’s representatives should be appointed instead of 11.

The Chief Minister accepted it and ordered the Divisional Commissioner to submit a revised proposal. In August 2023, the Divisional Commissioner held a meeting with the municipal officials and submitted a proposal to the state government to appoint a committee of 18 members. Finally, after eight months, the government has approved the establishment of this committee.
