Pune, January 17, 2026: In view of the international cycling event Pune Grand Challenge Tour 2026, schools, colleges and educational institutions located along major roads in Pune will remain closed on Monday, January 19, 2026. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to avoid inconvenience to students and parents due to large-scale traffic restrictions.

District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority Jitendra Dudi has issued official orders in this regard.

Reason for the Closure

  • The Prologue Race of the Pune Grand Challenge Tour will be held in Pune city on January 19.
  • Major roads will remain completely closed to traffic from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • Key roads affected include:
    • Fergusson College Road (FC Road)
    • Ganeshkhind Road
    • Jangli Maharaj Road (JM Road)
    • All connecting internal roads and sub-roads

Areas Where Schools and Colleges Will Remain Closed

Educational institutions within the jurisdiction of the following Pune Municipal Corporation ward offices will remain shut on January 19:

  • Bhavani Peth
  • Aundh–Baner
  • Kothrud–Bavdhan
  • Sinhagad Road

The closure applies to:

  • Anganwadis
  • Government and private primary and secondary schools
  • Junior and senior colleges
  • Professional and vocational educational institutions

Important Note

  • The holiday is valid only for Monday, January 19, 2026.
  • All educational institutions will resume normal operations from Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The district administration has appealed to citizens and parents to plan their travel keeping traffic diversions and road closures in mind.
