Pune, February 14, 2026: Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar has directed officials to expedite the survey process for preparing the draft comprehensive economic master plan under the proposed ‘Pune Growth Hub’ initiative. He also instructed that workshops be conducted with all concerned government departments, agencies, private stakeholders and industrial sectors, and that the master plan be prepared based on the findings of these consultations.

He was speaking at a review meeting on the ‘Pune Metropolitan Growth Hub’ held at the Vidhan Bhavan. Among those present were Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Dr Yogesh Mhase (via video conference), Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Pune Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P., District Rural Development Agency Project Director Shalini Kadu, Maha Metro Director Atul Gadgil, ISEG Director Shirish Sankhe (via video conference), PIC representatives Abhay Pethe and Mahesh Devdhar, representatives of McKinsey & Company, and officials from various government departments.

Dr Pulkundwar said that the NITI Aayog has included the Pune Metropolitan Region under its ‘Growth Hub’ initiative with the objective of establishing Pune as a significant player in the global economy. As part of the initiative, a draft comprehensive economic development plan will be prepared and submitted to the state government.

He emphasized the need to gather detailed information on Pune’s current economic strengths, available infrastructure and facilities, and regional advantages, while also identifying future challenges and areas requiring improvement. A holistic master plan must be prepared based on this comprehensive assessment, he said.

ISEG and McKinsey & Company are currently collecting data and holding discussions with key stakeholders, including the Industries Department, municipal corporations, Skill Development and Innovation Department, Tourism Department, as well as representatives from industrial manufacturing, information technology, and food processing sectors. Dr Pulkundwar directed that workshops be organized with these sectors and stated that meetings with the remaining government institutions would be scheduled soon to complete the data collection process.

He further said that the Divisional Commissioner’s office has established a coordination mechanism to facilitate collaboration among various departments for preparing the Pune Growth Hub master plan. All necessary support will be extended to the two advisory agencies through this system.

During the meeting, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar suggested that while preparing the master plan, discussions should also be held with industry associations such as MCCIA and FICCI to incorporate their recommendations.
