Pune: Four-wheelers, buses parked haphazardly outside St. Mary’s School and The Bishop’s School have become a nuisance for Wanowrie residents.
Residents said that the road has a narrow  lane and commuters often have trouble navigating the space due to unauthorised parking in front of school.

Amogh Gaikwad, an entrepreneur and resident in his tweet said,“Vehicles parked along the road side of St. Mary’s School and The Bishop’s School in the camp area create traffic jams in the area. Hence residents have been facing traffic jams and accidents. Urgent intervention is needed.’’

Many residents claimed that commuters cannot even walk through the stretch, as vehicles are parked in a haphazard manner on both sides of the lane. It takes more than twenty minutes to cross the 10-metre stretch.
Residents said that the situation is especially worse during peak traffic hours, as many headed to their workplaces are stranded while trying to cross the stretch because many parents parked their vehicles haphazardly outside schools.

D B Chudappa, Traffic Police Inspector at Lashkar traffic division said,“ Yes it is true that parents are parking their vehicles outside school which creates traffic jams during morning and evening. Already we have approached school administration in this regard and requested them to deploy a staff to monitor parking outside of the school.’’

Chudappa further said that school authorities had assured him that they would look into the matter.

Police and residents have appealed to parents and bus drivers to follow traffic rules for the benefit of all.
