Pune, April 27, 2026: As Pune grapples with an intensifying heatwave and temperatures soaring to a record high of 42 °C this summer, members of the Dawoodi Bohra community have stepped up with a city-wide “Beat the Heat” initiative, serving over 12,000 glasses of cold refreshments to workers and pedestrians across five key locations.

The drive was carried out by 72 volunteers, who came together to support daily wage workers, commuters, and others spending long hours outdoors in sweltering conditions. The initiative focused on providing immediate relief through chilled refreshments at high-footfall traffic points and junctions across Pune.

The five areas covered under the campaign were Rahaeja Vista Chowk, Hadapsar Bridge Chowki, Jyoti Chowk, Gera Junction Chowk, and Kedari Petrol Pump Chowk.

“This initiative is a small but meaningful way to support those who spend long hours outdoors, particularly in extreme temperatures,” said Murtaza Aden, a young member of the community in Pune. “I am happy to see all our community centres across the five areas in the city join for this initiative. We will continue to contribute positively to society through acts of care and compassion.”

Undertaken as part of the Project Rise initiative, the “Beat the Heat” initiative reflects the Dawoodi Bohra community’s nationwide commitment to public welfare, with similar relief efforts being carried out across various cities during the summer months.
