Pune, July 6, 2026: The Irrigation Department has issued a public advisory warning residents to stay away from the riverbed as heavy rainfall continues in the Khadakwasla Dam catchment area, raising the possibility of water being released from the dam within the next 24 hours.

According to officials, the Khadakwasla Dam reservoir was at 32% of its storage capacity as of 2:00 p.m. on July 6, 2026. However, with intense rainfall in the catchment area and increasing inflows into the reservoir, the dam is expected to reach 80% capacity or more within the next 24 hours.

Authorities said that, depending on the rainfall and inflow situation, water may have to be released through the dam spillway at any time.

As a precautionary measure, the Irrigation Department has urged the public not to enter the riverbed. Residents have also been advised to immediately remove livestock, equipment, and any other belongings from the river channel to safer locations.

The department has further requested local authorities to alert residents living in low-lying areas and take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

Officials have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant, follow official advisories, and cooperate with the Irrigation Department until the weather situation improves.

The advisory was issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer, Nira Deoghar Project Management Sub-Division, Property Management Sub-Division, Pune.
