Pune: Highly Qualified Woman Dies By Suicide After Dowry Harassment, Mother-in-Law Booked
Pune, June 23, 2025: A 29-year-old woman in Pune’s Handewadi area died by suicide after facing continuous harassment for dowry. The woman, Deepika Pramod Jadhav, ended her life by hanging herself at home. Police have registered a case against her mother-in-law for allegedly harassing her.
According to Kalepadal Police, Deepika’s father filed the complaint. He said that Deepika was being mentally and physically harassed for dowry by her mother-in-law, Dwarka Namdev Jadhav, ever since her marriage eight years ago.
Deepika held a degree in agriculture and worked at a private company. Her husband works as a government clerk. Despite being educated and employed, Deepika was reportedly insulted and pressured by her in-laws for more dowry. They often taunted her and demanded money.
Unable to cope with the pressure, Deepika died by suicide on June 20.
This incident happened soon after another shocking case in Ambegaon, Katraj, where a woman jumped from a fifth-floor building with her six-year-old son, also reportedly due to domestic abuse. In that case, her husband has been arrested.
Police have appealed to anyone facing domestic violence or dowry harassment to seek help and report such incidents.
