Pune, July 3, 2026: Despite the onset of the monsoon and the first spell of rainfall, the historic Mastani Lake at Wadki near Fursungi continues to remain largely dry, raising concerns among local residents over worsening water scarcity and its impact on tourism.

Mastani Lake, a key water source for the Wadki area, has not received adequate inflow due to insufficient rainfall in its catchment. Residents say the lake has almost dried up, triggering fears of an acute water shortage if rainfall does not intensify in the coming days.

The lake plays a crucial role in replenishing groundwater and supporting water availability in the surrounding villages throughout the year. With the reservoir yet to fill, villagers are anxiously awaiting sustained rainfall to improve the situation.

The prolonged dry conditions have also affected tourism. Mastani Lake is a popular destination, particularly during the monsoon, attracting visitors who come to enjoy its scenic surroundings. However, the absence of water has disappointed tourists, with many returning without experiencing the lake in its usual picturesque form.

Locals have expressed concern that if the delayed monsoon continues, the lake’s ecosystem and the region’s water resources could face further stress. They hope that heavy rainfall over the next few weeks will replenish the reservoir, restore groundwater levels, and revive tourism activity around the historic site.

Residents and visitors alike are now looking to the monsoon for relief, as the condition of the iconic Mastani Lake remains a growing concern for both water security and the local economy.
