Pune: Kothrud’s Shastrinagar Crematorium In Poor Condition; Leaking Shelter Causes Hardship For Citizens
Pune, July 3, 2026: The deteriorating condition of the Shastrinagar Crematorium in Kothrud has raised concerns among local residents, with the facility’s damaged shelter causing significant inconvenience to grieving families during the monsoon season.
According to local resident Prashant Kanojia, the roof of the crematorium’s waiting shed is leaking extensively, making it difficult for visitors to take shelter while attending last rites. Due to the continuous leakage, mourners are reportedly forced to stand under the shed while holding umbrellas to protect themselves from the rain.
Residents have described the situation as insensitive and distressing, especially considering that people visiting the crematorium are already coping with the loss of their loved ones. They have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to immediately inspect the facility and undertake necessary repair work to ensure basic amenities are available for the public.
With the monsoon intensifying, citizens fear that the condition of the shelter could worsen further if timely maintenance is not carried out. They have appealed to the civic administration to prioritise repairs and improve the infrastructure at the crematorium to provide a safe and dignified environment for families performing funeral rites.
Residents are now awaiting a prompt response from the civic authorities, hoping that immediate action will be taken to restore the damaged shelter and prevent further inconvenience to visitors.
