Pune, june 4, 2026: In a major breakthrough in the investigation into the toxic liquor tragedy that claimed several lives in Pune’s Phugewadi and Hadapsar areas, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a father-son duo accused of supplying chemicals used in the manufacture of the illicit liquor.

The arrested accused have been identified as Arun Jagdamba Chaubey (59) and Abhishek Arun Chaubey (34), both residents of Vashigaon in Navi Mumbai.

The duo was produced before a court in Pimpri, which remanded them to four days of police custody for further investigation.

According to CID officials, the arrests are part of an extensive probe into the distribution network behind the toxic liquor that allegedly contained methanol and resulted in multiple deaths and serious illnesses.

Investigators have collected CCTV footage, liquor samples and other evidence from various locations linked to the case. The seized materials have been sent to the forensic laboratory for scientific analysis.

Meanwhile, the custody of Aryan Sanjeev Dhotre, who is accused of selling methanol-laced country liquor in the Wadarwadi area, has been extended by one day. Police allege that Dhotre procured the illicit liquor from the case’s alleged kingpin, Sikandar Rathod alias Yogesh Wankhede, and distributed it locally.

The CID is continuing its efforts to trace the entire supply chain involved in the manufacture and distribution of the toxic liquor.

The State Crime Investigation Department has appealed to citizens with any information related to the case to come forward and assist the investigation. Information can be shared with CID Deputy Superintendents of Police Shyamrao Kale and Sachin Chavan.

Officials said further arrests and action may follow as the investigation progresses and forensic reports become available.
