Official data reveals a remarkable surge in housing societies benefitting from property tax concessions as a result of their proactive adoption of eco-friendly initiatives in Pune. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has instituted tax incentives for societies implementing eco-conscious practices such as vermicomposting, solar installations, and rainwater harvesting.

Over a span of three years, the count of these environmentally-conscious societies has notably risen, with 111,069 receiving tax concessions in the fiscal year 2022-2023, compared to 74,360 in 2018-19, according to authoritative statistics.

Given the adverse impact of climate change, it has become increasingly imperative to counter its effects. Experts recommend the pursuit of sustainable development goals (SDGs) as a means to mitigate these impacts.

The government’s push for electric vehicles (EVs) has manifested in the requirement for new housing societies to allocate parking spaces for EVs, thereby propelling energy efficiency, water preservation, and waste management endeavors. These concerted initiatives collectively contribute to curbing carbon emissions and fostering a greener environment.
