Pune: Indrayani River Cyclothon to Take Place on January 19 in Bhosari, Focusing on Environmental Awareness and River Preservation
Pimpri-Chinchwad:
The Indrayani River Cyclothon has received an enthusiastic response, aimed at raising awareness about the cleanliness and conservation of the Indrayani River. The event also emphasizes environmental preservation and promoting cycling and regular exercise among the youth. Within just four days, more than 10,286 environmental enthusiasts have registered online to participate in this cycling rally.
The Indrayani River holds significant spiritual importance, connecting pilgrimage sites like Alandi and Dehu. For the Warkari community in Maharashtra, its water is considered holy. However, pollution has endangered the river’s existence. To restore its former glory, MLA Mahesh Landge conceptualized the Indrayani River Cyclothon, which has been organized annually since 2017. According to the chief coordinator, Dr. Nilesh Londhe, this year marks the 9th edition of the event.
The cyclothon will take place on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Gavjatra Ground, Bhosari, starting at 6 AM, in the presence of various dignitaries.
To ensure easy participation, the organizers have developed the website https://rivercyclothon.in for online registration. Remarkably, no participation fee is charged for the event. The website has gone viral on social media, resulting in 10,286 registrations as of Monday evening. Citizens from all walks of life have shown immense enthusiasm for this rally.
Guinness World Record Recognition
The Indrayani River Cyclothon is organized with the support of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, Maheshdada Sports Foundation, Shivanjali Sakhi Manch, and other environmental organizations and volunteers. Approximately 35,000 participants, including cyclists of all ages, join the rally each year.
In 2022, the cyclothon was listed in the India Book of Records and achieved a Guinness World Record for the “Longest Line of Bicycles (Static).” This year’s event aims to further strengthen its impact and continue setting new milestones.
