Pune: Injured Peacock Rescued Near Wagholi By Green Sunrise Hills Volunteers
Pune, May 7, 2026: An injured Indian Peafowl was rescued by members of the environmental volunteer group Green Sunrise Hills near Loni Kand in Pune district and shifted to a specialised bird hospital for treatment.
According to the volunteers, the bird was found in severe distress and was unable to move properly. After noticing its condition, the rescue team safely secured the peafowl and coordinated with the Maharashtra Forest Department to complete the required legal formalities before transporting it for medical care.

Officials said the Indian Peafowl is protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, making it mandatory to inform forest authorities during such rescue operations.
A member of the rescue team said immediate medical attention was necessary to reduce the bird’s suffering and ensure expert treatment from avian specialists.
The peafowl is currently under observation at a bird speciality hospital, where veterinarians are assessing its injuries and monitoring its recovery.
Forest Department officials appreciated the prompt and lawful action taken by the volunteers and urged citizens to immediately inform authorities if they come across injured wildlife instead of attempting treatment themselves.
The rescue operation was also shared online through a video documenting the incident.
Founded in 2016, Green Sunrise Hills has been actively involved in environmental initiatives across the Wagholi region. The group claims to have planted nearly 50,000 saplings in Wagholi and nearby areas over the past decade.
The organisation appealed to residents to maintain a safe distance from injured wild animals or birds, avoid feeding them, and seek professional assistance from forest officials or trained rescue teams.
