Pune: Ishratbaug Residents From NIBM Undri Road Seek Urgent PMC Help To Resolve Drainage, Drinking Water And Garbage Issues
Pune, June 20, 2026: Residents of Ishratbaug locality on NIBM Road have raised serious concerns over deteriorating civic conditions in the area, alleging that drainage water is mixing with drinking water, creating a potential public health hazard.
According to residents, the locality is also grappling with uncollected garbage and waste dumps, making living conditions increasingly difficult. Frustrated by the lack of resolution, residents approached Pune Pulse and appealed for intervention, claiming that repeated complaints to local representatives have failed to yield any concrete action.
Residents said the contamination of drinking water has become a major concern, with fears of waterborne diseases increasing among families living in the area. They also pointed out that garbage accumulation in several spots has added to sanitation and hygiene challenges.
After Pune Pulse highlighted the issue with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Kondhwa-Undri Ward Office Assistant Commissioner Suchita Pansare assured that prompt action would be taken to address the drainage-related problems. Meanwhile, a junior engineer from the PMC Water Supply Department assured residents that a water tanker would be deployed to provide immediate relief until the issue is resolved.
PMC Health Department officials who visited the locality, however, stated that civic authorities have been undertaking extensive cleanliness and sanitation work in the area. Officials noted that some residents have been reluctant to cooperate with waste management efforts and are not consistently segregating their household waste as required.
The health department emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility and urged residents to actively participate in waste segregation and sanitation initiatives. Officials said that while PMC will continue efforts to improve civic services, cooperation from citizens is essential to ensure lasting solutions.
Residents are now hoping for swift action from the civic administration to restore safe drinking water, improve drainage infrastructure, and ensure regular garbage collection in the locality.
