Complaint filed leads to police case under cheating and criminal breach of trust.

A startling allegation has emerged from Pune, where a multinational IT firm and its HR consultancy are accused of defrauding approximately 75 software engineers of “crores of rupees” under the promise of jobs, salary payments, and training.

Alleged Modus Operandi

  • The accused HR-consultancy promised entry into a multinational IT firm for finishing a CDAC course and paying a joining fee. One victim paid ₹1 lakh and was issued an offer letter, then worked only two months before salary payment was withheld.
  • Victims say they were dismissed without notice, salary unpaid, and no provident fund or statutory benefits provided. The CEO of the IT firm and the HR consultant allegedly conspired to collect the funds and then terminate contracts.
  • While detailed figures are still being compiled, the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) estimates the total fraud runs into crores of rupees. At least five victims were identified in one subset of cases with a combined loss of ₹9.75 lakh.

Police Response and Legal Action

  • The case has been registered at the Bavdhan Police Station, Pune. Investigations include bank transaction records, email communications, and internal company documents.
  • Charges have been registered under sections 420 (cheating)406 (criminal breach of trust), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
  • Earlier job-fraud cases in Pune’s tech sector include an IT firm in Hinjewadi where around 300 freshers were allegedly duped of over ₹3.55 crore for training and placement.

What Job-Seekers Should Be Aware Of

This incident serves as a stark reminder to tech workers and fresh graduates to exercise caution when job-offers require upfront payments or joining fees. Legitimate employers typically do not ask for money. Background verification of the firm, checking statutory registration (PF, etc.), and consulting employment forums like FITE are advised.
