Pune, July 19, 2026: Residents of Kalyani Nagar are being encouraged to become “Tree Guardians” through the TSKN (Team Swach Kalyani Nagar) – Adopt a Tree Initiative, a community-led campaign aimed at expanding Pune’s urban green cover and promoting long-term environmental conservation.

The sapling distribution drive was held on Saturday, July 18, at the PMC Sports Ground on Central Avenue, next to Ganpati Mandir, where residents registered to adopt and nurture native tree saplings.

As part of the initiative, each participant received one sapling to encourage wider community participation. Organisers required residents to register their names and contact details before collecting the saplings.

The campaign focuses on planting native shade tree species, including Karanj, Bakul, and Putranjiva (Putravati), which are well suited to Pune’s climate. These species are expected to improve biodiversity, provide natural shade, and contribute to a healthier urban environment.

Participants have been advised to plant the saplings in pits approximately three feet deep, install sturdy tree guards for protection, and maintain a minimum spacing of six feet between trees to ensure healthy growth.

Residents have also been encouraged to plant the saplings near their homes or workplaces so they can monitor their growth and provide regular watering and maintenance, particularly during the dry months.

Organisers stressed that the initiative’s success will not be measured by the number of saplings distributed but by the number that survive and grow into mature trees. Participants have pledged to care for their adopted saplings for the next three years, helping build a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Kalyani Nagar for future generations.
