A dedicated dog park may soon become a reality in Kharadi, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) identifying a plot for the much-awaited facility. First announced in March 2023, the dog park project is aimed at reducing the growing instances of human-canine conflict across the city.

While the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation successfully launched its first dog park in January, PMC’s earlier attempts failed due to logistical and legal hurdles.

The initial site near Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj was rejected after the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) cited regulations prohibiting domestic animals and pets within zoo premises. A second proposed site in Aundh was later reallocated to another civic department.

PMC is keen on selecting a site where pet ownership is high, ensuring maximum benefit to pet parents. While some facilities within the park—like a dog swimming pool—might involve nominal charges, basic features such as walking tracks and recreational areas will be free to use. All dogs will be required to be vaccinated, de-wormed, and leashed within the premises.
