Pune- A 28-year-old software engineer residing in Kothrud lost Rs 18.33 lakh after an unknown caller took her bank details on May 16. According to senior inspector Sandeep Deshmane, the employee works for a Kharadi-based IT company. She received a call from an unknown number on May 16 where the caller claimed a parcel containing mephedrone drugs, old passports, and garments was seized by customs officials in Mumbai and it had her name on it.

The caller posed as a Mumbai police officer and took her bank details under the process of ‘bank verification’. The crooks took a personal loan of Rs 18.33 lakh in her name shortly after the call. The woman then filed a complaint with the cybercrime police. A case was registered with the Kothrud police after verification on Thursday.

Further investigation is underway.
