Pune, June 16, 2026: A resident of Kothrud has raised serious concerns about food safety after allegedly discovering a caterpillar inside a one-litre packet of Gokul milk purchased from a local grocery store.

According to the consumer, the incident came to light on June 15, 2026, when the milk was poured into a vessel and placed on a gas stove for heating. During the process, a caterpillar was allegedly found inside the milk packet.

The consumer immediately contacted Gokul’s customer care and lodged a complaint regarding the issue. Initially, the complaint was reportedly denied. However, after the consumer shared photographs of the alleged contamination as evidence, the company refunded the cost of the milk packet.

The resident stated that the issue goes beyond the monetary value of the product and raises concerns about quality control and consumer safety. “The refund is not the main concern. The presence of a caterpillar in a sealed milk packet poses a potential health risk and raises serious questions about product quality and hygiene standards,” the consumer said.

The milk packet in question was a one-litre pack of Gokul milk bearing Lot No. T05 and an expiry date of June 16, 2026.

In the complaint submitted to the company, the consumer stated that after opening the packet, a caterpillar was found inside the milk. The resident also claimed that repeated attempts to contact the customer care helpline were unsuccessful as the line remained continuously engaged.

The consumer has retained the milk packet and stated that photographs and additional evidence are available for inspection if required. The matter has been brought to the attention of the company with a request for an urgent investigation into the alleged contamination.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of stringent quality checks in food and dairy products and serves as a reminder for consumers to carefully inspect packaged food items before use.

No official statement from Gokul regarding the complaint was available at the time of reporting.
