Pune, March 12, 2026: A complaint has been filed at the Shivajinagar Police Station against Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya, alleging disrespect to the national flag during celebrations after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final.

India defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8, securing the championship title. Following the victory, players and their families entered the field to celebrate the historic win, while fans across the country marked the occasion with enthusiasm.

During the on-field celebrations, a video featuring Pandya and his girlfriend Mahieka went viral on social media. In the clip, the couple is seen sharing a romantic moment on the field. At the time, Pandya was reportedly draped in the Indian national flag.

Pune-based advocate Wajed Khan subsequently filed a complaint, alleging that the act amounted to disrespect of the national flag. In his complaint, he claimed that the cricketer wrapped himself in the tricolour and engaged in inappropriate behaviour during the celebrations.

According to the complaint, the act allegedly violates provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. The complainant has requested legal action against the cricketer, stating that every citizen has a responsibility to uphold the dignity of the national flag.

Police officials have received the complaint and further action will depend on the preliminary review of the allegations.
