Pune : Liquor transported in guise of medicines seized by State Excise dept
Pune: The State Excise department, Pune unit has busted a racket involved in the illegal transportation of liquor using the names of pharmaceutical products. The department confiscated goods worth Rs 57.25 lakh.
The department has arrested two suspects named Danaram Chunaram Nehra and Rukhmanaram Khetaram Godara in connection with the case.
State excise department got information about a truck illegally transporting liquor by the name of pharmaceutical products. Acting on the information, the department laid a trap near Hotel Lal Mirch in Saswad area on 24 April. After inspecting the trucks parked near the Lal Mirch hotel on the Pune-Mangaon highway, the officials found liquor bottles instead of medicines and injections.Department seized a total 8640 liquor bottles in 180 boxes of various brands.
Officials from the state excise department said that, during investigation, it was found that the driver failed to provide any permission/documents for the transportation of liquor and hence seized goods worth a truck,mobile, liquor bottles worth Rs 57.25 lakh and investigation is still going on.
