Pune: Frequent purchase of water tankers has burnt a hole in the pockets of Lohegaon and Wagholi residents due to acute water shortage in the area.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, a resident of Aurum Elemento Society Lohegaon and founding member of Lohegaon Residents Welfare Association (LRWA), on condition of anonymity said, “The water supply from the Bhama Askhed Dam is not sufficient at all. We have to purchase water tankers every 2 to 3 three days as there is water cut. It costs us Rs 1000 per tanker. More than 200 families live in our society and on an average, 4 to 5 tankers are required every day.”

As per information from LRWA founding members, more societies which are affected by this water issue are:

Good Will Nirmiti, Castle Royale, J D Crystal, Atlantis City, Unique Prospero (Severe issue), Revell Orchid, Gini Belvista, Nivasa udaan, ParkVista, Gini Bellina, Aurum Elementto, ELITE ABODE, Lotus Residency, Paras Basera, LifeSquare and many more

Ravi Ganachari, Resident, Aero Polis Phase 1 Lohegaon & Secretary of LRWA said, “The current water supply from the pipeline from Jakaat Naka & Bhama Askhed dam water supply is not sufficient at all. There are 198 flats in our society. Due to frequent water supply cuts from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), we have to purchase water tankers. The monthly cost for water tankers is around Rs 2 lakh 60 thousand for the entire society. We are paying taxes on time. Then why are we facing this water crisis?  We request PMC to effectively reduce the water cuts and repair damaged water pipelines so that the burden of purchasing costly water tankers will be gone.”

Aniruddha Pawaskar, Head, Water Supply Department, PMC, assures “The pre-reckoning committee has approved the estimate of Rs 230 crore (including GST) for efficient and adequate water supply work for Lohegaon and Wagholi. The tendering process will begin after 7 to 8 days. Rest assured, after the water supply work, which will complete in around 7 to 8 months, Lohegaon & Wagholi Residents will get water supply every day.”

Sunil Tingre, MLA, Vadgaon Sheri, said “The estimate is approved now. Soon, the tender for the water supply work will be released. For a period of 7 to 8 months, the water supply work will continue. After that Lohegaon and Wagholi residents will get adequate and daily water supply.”
