Pune: Lohgaon Residents Urge Minister Murlidhar Mohol To Halt Demolition Drive Near Air Force Boundary
Pune: Residents of Lohgaon have appealed to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol to stop the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) ongoing demolition action on constructions within 100 and 900 meters of the Air Force boundary wall.
Sunil Khandave, representing the residents, said, “As per restrictions, no construction is allowed within 100 meters of the Air Force boundary and very limited activity is permitted up to 900 meters. The High Court, in 2015, had ordered demolitions in this restricted zone. Following that, the PMC conducted drone surveys and photographed structures within these zones. This report will be submitted to the court, where we will present our side.”
So far, PMC’s action in the area has led to the demolition of 24 buildings. Villagers, who met Mohol recently, pointed out that several settlements and houses existed in the area even before these restrictions were imposed. They claimed that continued enforcement would lead to significant loss for local families.
Rajendra Khandave Patil also raised grievances with the minister, stating, “The PMC collects taxes from Lohgaon but fails to provide any basic facilities.”
Residents have demanded immediate intervention to stop the demolitions or risk widespread hardship in the community.
