Mohol received the most votes in Kothrud and Parvati, while the votes from the suburbs proved to be decisive.

Muralidhar Mohol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win the Pune Lok Sabha seat. However, he managed to get lead from Kothrud, Wadgaon Sheri, Parvati, Kasba and Shivaji nagar assembly segments while trailing in Pune cantonment.

Thirty-five candidates were in the fray for the Pune Lok Sabha seat, including Anis Sundke of MIM, Vasant More of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Ravindra Dhangekar of the Mahavikas Aghadi, and Muralidhar Mohol of the Mahayuti. The actual tussle was between Ravindra Dhangekar and Muralidhar Mohol.

There are six Assembly segments in Pune – Kasba, Pune Cantonment, Parvati, Kothrud, Shivaji Nagar and Wadgaon Sheri, with BJP legislators representing in four i.e. Kothrud, Shivaji Nagar, Pune Cantonment, and Parvati while alliance partner NCP’s Sunil Tingre in Wadgaon Sheri as against the Congress’s Ravindra Dhangekar in Kasba assembly segment.

When Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar defeated the BJP in the Kasba Peth Legislative Assembly by-election, history was made. As a result, Congress made Dhangekar fight the Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress leadership brought in ten MLAs from Vidarbha during the last stages of the election campaign in an attempt to curb factionalism, but the move did not have the desired outcome.

The victory margin for BJP also decreased tremendously from over three lakh in the previous two Lok Sabha elections riding on Modi wave to 1.23 lakh this election despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding an election rally for the party candidate.

Prominent leaders, including union ministers Nitin Gadkari, S Jaishankar, state leaders Devendra Fadanavis, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Vinod Tawade had campaigned for Mohol.
