Pune, December 20, 2025:

Residents of multiple housing societies in Mahalunge have submitted a formal representation to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), urging immediate action to address the lack of basic civic amenities in the area, particularly the absence of a footpath outside their residential complexes.

The appeal has been made on behalf of the Mahalunge–Balewadi Housing Societies Forum, representing prominent residential societies including Kirti Elegant, Metro Jazz, Shroff Soleno, Essencia Heights, Aldea Espanol (Puraniks), Rivera Society, Sarthi Skybay, Godrej Riverhill, and Equilife Society. The Mahalunge area was merged into the PMC limits more than three years ago, yet residents say essential infrastructure remains neglected.

In their letter to the Municipal Commissioner, residents highlighted a 100 to 150-metre stretch outside their societies that lacks a proper footpath. As a result, pedestrians—especially schoolchildren walking daily to Educon International School—are forced to use the main road, exposing them to serious safety risks amid fast-moving traffic.

The problem, residents noted, is compounded by overflowing drains, accumulated garbage, and damaged road surfaces, creating both hazardous and unhygienic conditions. Despite repeated complaints over the years, these fundamental civic issues have not been resolved, they said.

According to the forum, the affected societies together account for nearly 5,000 residential flats, housing thousands of citizens who rely on this stretch of road for daily commuting, school access, and essential travel. The lack of pedestrian infrastructure, residents argue, undermines both safety and quality of life in a rapidly developing urban zone.

The residents have made three key demands to the civic body: immediate construction of a continuous and safe footpath along the affected stretch, regular cleaning and maintenance of drains to prevent waterlogging and sanitation issues, and the installation of adequate street lighting to improve visibility and safety during night hours.

Expressing hope for prompt action, the Mahalunge Residents Group has urged the PMC to treat the issue as a priority, stressing that basic infrastructure is a fundamental right for citizens living within municipal limits. The forum has stated that timely intervention will significantly enhance safety, hygiene, and overall liveability in the Mahalunge area.
