Pune, July 31: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has stayed the decision to lift the hilltop and hill slope reservation on three plots totaling around seven acres in Bibwewadi. The Chief Minister has instructed the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department to submit a revised proposal, according to MLA Madhuri Misal.

MLA Misal, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, met with Chief Minister Shinde yesterday to discuss the issue and present a memorandum. State Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil was also present.

Chief Minister Shinde has ordered a halt to the proposal to cancel the reservation on select plots and directed the Urban Development Department to draft a new proposal to remove the reservation from all plots within the Bibwewadi HTHS zone.

MLA Misal expressed her gratitude for the decision, which benefits the poor and middle-class residents of the Parvati constituency. The decision is seen as a positive outcome of Misal’s efforts.

Local residents had previously submitted a memorandum to MLA Misal requesting the cancellation of hilltop reservations on adjacent plots, similar to those lifted from the three plots. The Chief Minister’s decision reflects the success of Misal’s advocacy.

The reservation in Bibwewadi and its surrounding areas was established in the 1987 development plan. Prior to this, local residents had already constructed homes on the land. Despite repeated protests from the residents, the reservation had been temporarily stayed by the state government. However, developers sought the lifting of reservations on 11 of their plots in the same area.

The state government sought feedback from the Pune Municipal Corporation, which provided a positive opinion on lifting the reservation from three selected plots. Accordingly, the government decided to proceed with the reservation lift. In response, a meeting with local residents resulted in a request for removing the reservation from general residential areas, leading to MLA Misal’s successful intervention.
